When it comes to photography, I'd like to consider myself a hobbyist, rather than an amateur. I enjoy the occasional snap here and there. Lately I've been getting into portrait shots... even some underwater shots.

The Pro Camera:

The Flash:

The Lens:

This camera will offer you:
  • 8.2 Megapixels
  • Full manual control
  • It's a D-SLR
  • RAW, RAW+JPEG
  • It's not a point-n-shoot
Here is an overly verbose review of the 20D.

Do you really need an external flash?

In short: yes. For a more verbose reason, read this very long review of the Speedlite 430EX

Why get a separate lens? Isn't the original lens good enough?

No. The lens is really what makes a great picture. Care to read a long review of the Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens?

The Underwater Camera

The Very Necessary Red Strap

It won't give you great pictures, or even great video. But, it's waterproof. That's all I needed. Oh, and it's shockproof, so you can drop it :

Read the review of the Olympus Stylus 770SW.

The red strap is needed so you can see the camera when you drop it under water in the ocean ;)
